Luke Littler Closes Gap on Premier League Darts Leader

Luke Littler pulled off a stunning comeback against Gerwyn Price to win week seven of Premier League Darts in Dublin.

Price, the defending Dublin champion, surged to a 5-0 lead, but then missed opportunities to close out the match, allowing Littler to seize six consecutive legs and claim his second weekly victory of the season.

Littler’s Improbable Victory

Littler’s win in Dublin narrowed the gap between him and league leader Jonny Clayton to just three points after a night of thrilling matches. Earlier in the evening, Littler edged out Michael van Gerwen in a 6-5 contest that featured two 170 finishes, while Price dominated with a 6-0 whitewash of Josh Rock and a 6-1 victory over defending Premier League champion Luke Humphries.

Price’s form faltered at the crucial moment, failing to convert match-winning doubles in the final against Littler.

Littler himself described his victory to Sky Sports as unbelievable, stating: “I have no idea how I’ve done that.”

He admitted that he felt like he was “gone” when Price took a 5-0 lead, barely giving him a chance at a double. However, Littler capitalised on Price’s missed match darts, turning the tide and securing an unexpected win.

Price’s Missed Opportunities Prove Costly

Littler celebrated ironically after avoiding the whitewash, but Price’s subsequent missed match darts appeared to shatter his confidence. He missed three match darts in one leg, and then two more, as Littler completed the turnaround.

“It was very strange,” Littler said. “The first leg was a bit of fun, got my 180 and then waved them goodbye because when Gerwyn Price is on double tops he doesn’t usually miss.

“I was so gone. I might as well as have been off stage, but this is darts, things happen. Darts is a silly old game.”

Littler’s final average was 95.54, with four 180s and a 50% checkout rate. However, the statistics do not fully capture the drama of the match, as Price was left to rue his missed chances, while Littler celebrated in disbelief.

Maximum Finishes in Thrilling Semi-Final

Littler’s semi-final match against Van Gerwen saw both players hit maximum 170 checkouts.

Van Gerwen initially struggled to find his rhythm, having received a bye due to Gian van Veen’s withdrawal because of kidney stones. But he found his form, winning legs in 12 and 11 darts to take a 4-3 lead, igniting a spell of electrifying darts between the two, including the two maximum finishes.

Littler is known for hitting the ‘Big Fish’ but he missed his first try.
