LIV Golf League executives have reportedly been called to an emergency meeting in New York. The meeting follows claims that the PIF-backed circuit is under severe threat of shutting down.
Emergency Summit in Manhattan
LIV bosses were reportedly called to “an emergency summit” in Manhattan on Wednesday. The exact reason for the gathering was “unclear.”
Elsewhere, it was reported that “not a single executive” was at the Club de Golf Chapultepec one day before LIV Golf Mexico City is due to begin. The tournament’s media centre was also closed on Tuesday. This was allegedly due to a power board not working. LIV’s press conferences on Tuesday were also cancelled because of “technical issues,” and were rescheduled for Wednesday.
Players remain in the dark over the current state of play. The 57 pros involved are planning on teeing it up at Club de Golf Chapultepec for the first of four rounds on Thursday.
Players Await Their Fate in Mexico
Tee times for round one have been announced. More information will be shared with players before the tournament begins.
In Fireballs GC’s press conference on Wednesday, captain Sergio Garcia addressed the rumours. He claimed he had not heard anything concerning.
Garcia said that he hadn’t “heard anything other than what Yasir [Al-Rumayyan – PIF chairman) already told us at the beginning of the year – that he’s behind us, that they have a project of many years.” He added that “there are always many rumors, and I can’t comment on anything more than what we know.”
Speculation and Bombshell Announcements
Speculation over the future of the LIV Golf League began after one report on social media stated that “a bombshell announcement” on the PIF-backed circuit’s future is “imminent.”
Monday Q Info posted a message on X that claimed something significant is set to occur. The account wrote: “I’ve heard from multiple sources that a bombshell announcement on LIV’s future is imminent.
“We don’t give out gambling advice but if you’re a prediction market type person I would bet the under of whatever they have posted.”
Pairings were released for the first round of LIV Golf Mexico. Players are awaiting their fate and will likely know more by mid-afternoon.
