Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff has taken a subtle dig at Boston Bruins coach Marco Sturm, despite Buffalo’s series win. Sturm commented before the series about the Bruins being the more physical team. Buffalo clinched the series against Boston last Friday night at the TD Garden with a 4-1 win in Game 6.
Ruff’s Response to Sturm’s Comments
Sturm’s comment was noted in Western New York. The Sabres downplayed it at the time. With Buffalo now preparing to face the Montreal Canadiens in the second round, Ruff addressed the media on Wednesday and made a pointed remark.
When discussing the physicality expected against Montreal, Ruff said: “I have to be careful about answering questions about bigger, stronger teams.”
Living in the Past?
The comment from Sturm appears to still be on Ruff’s mind. According to one report, Ruff should be moving on to the Canadiens, not dwelling on what Sturm said three weeks ago. Buffalo will be facing a different, more skilled team in Montreal.
Whether Montreal will be the more physical team remains to be seen. Ruff couldn’t resist referencing the previous series before facing Montreal.
