Leeds United’s Formidable Run: Premier League Points and Goalscoring Prowess

Leeds United have been making waves in the Premier League, while Tottenham Hotspur have faced challenges, particularly at home. Here’s a look at their recent form and some key stats.

Leeds’ Impressive Premier League Performance

Since the start of December, Leeds United have been a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League. Only six teams have picked up more points than Leeds United (32) in that time. The Whites have also been tough to beat, with only Man City, Man Utd, and Bournemouth losing fewer games (4) than them. Leeds United have scored three or more goals in eight different Premier League matches this season. This is the most by a newly promoted team since Leeds themselves did so in 2020-21 under Marcelo Bielsa (10 times, a record in a 38-game season).

Leeds are unbeaten in their last six Premier League games (W3 D3) and have already had a seven-game unbeaten run this season from December to early January. The last newly promoted team to have two runs of 7+ unbeaten games in a season were Middlesbrough in 1998-99.

Tottenham’s Home Woes and Possession Stats

Tottenham Hotspur have struggled at home this season. No team has won fewer home Premier League points this season than Tottenham Hotspur (11), who have lost 10 home games for a second consecutive season. Only in 1991-92 have they lost more home league games in a season (11).

However, under Roberto De Zerbi, Spurs have shown improvement in winning possession in the final third. In their four games under De Zerbi, Spurs have won possession in the final third 5.3 times per game on average. That’s the most of any manager with 4+ games at a single club in the Premier League this season, and much higher than they managed to do so under both Thomas Frank (3.7) and Igor Tudor (3.8).

Key Players and Goalscoring Records

Leeds United’s Noah Okafor has been particularly sharp in front of goal. Among players to play 200+ Premier League minutes since the start of February, Noah Okafor has the best minutes per goal ratio, netting six goals in just 408 minutes (one every 68 minutes). Across the last three seasons, Tottenham’s Richarlison has scored or assisted on average every 109 minutes in the Premier League (25 goals, 9 assists). Among players with 3,000+ minutes in that time, only Mohamed Salah (goal/assist every 91 mins), Erling Haaland (91) and Alexander Isak (102) have done so at a more frequent rate.

Historical Head-to-Head

Spurs have dominated their recent Premier League encounters with Leeds. Spurs have won eight of their last nine Premier League games against Leeds, including the last five in a row since a 3-1 loss in May 2021. After winning three of their four away league games against Spurs between 1997 and 2001 (D1), Leeds have now lost each of their last six visits.

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to win three consecutive Premier League games for the first time since February 2025. Following victories over Wolves and Aston Villa, they will hope to continue their winning streak.
