Schwarber’s commitment to the Phillies was solidified in December. He reached a five-year, $150 million deal with the team.
Bryce Harper told reporters he was surprised Schwarber opted to return to Philadelphia instead of leaving in free agency for his hometown Cincinnati Reds.
Schwarber’s Ohio Connections
Middletown High School hosted an event in November to celebrate Schwarber’s baseball accomplishments and community commitment. The event was free and open to the public.
Prior to that, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine urged the Reds to sign Schwarber.
Schwarber also celebrated the Indiana University Hoosiers’ win in the College Football Playoff championship game by sharing a photo of confetti falling at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. He starred for the Indiana University baseball team before starting his MLB career.
