Marta Kostyuk will face Iga Swiatek in the fourth round of Roland Garros after both players secured straight-sets victories in their respective third-round matches. Kostyuk defeated Viktorija Golubic, while Swiatek overcame Magda Linette.
Kostyuk’s Formidable Clay Court Run
Marta Kostyuk, the most in-form player of the 2026 clay-court swing, has extended her winning streak to 15 matches with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Viktorija Golubic. The No. 15 seed remains unbeaten on clay this year. Her impressive run includes title wins in Rouen and Madrid, along with a victory in the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers.
Swiatek’s Dominance at Roland Garros
Iga Swiatek, a four-time champion in Paris, secured her place in the fourth round with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Polish compatriot Magda Linette. The No. 3 seed has an incredible 93% win rate at Roland Garros, holding a 43-3 record overall. Swiatek’s victory over Linette marked her eighth consecutive year reaching the fourth round at the tournament.
History Favours Swiatek
While Kostyuk has recent form on her side, Swiatek boasts a dominant record at Roland Garros. Only two women have won the tournament more times in the Open Era: Chris Evert and Stefanie Graf. It has been two years since Swiatek last won a title on clay, at Roland Garros 2024. Her most recent title on any surface was nine months ago, at Cincinnati 2024.
Swiatek’s clay-court record this year is 9-3. This includes a quarterfinal loss in Stuttgart to Mirra Andreeva, a retirement due to illness against Ann Li in Madrid and a semifinal loss to Elina Svitolina in Rome. She has advanced to the second week of a major for the fourth time overall.
Previous Encounters
Swiatek has dominated her personal history with Kostyuk, winning all three of their professional encounters without dropping a set. This includes a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the 2021 Roland Garros fourth round, which marked Kostyuk’s Grand Slam second-week debut. Their most recent match was in Cincinnati 2024, where Swiatek won their third-round match 6-2, 6-2.
Kostyuk’s Mindset Ahead of the Match
Kostyuk believes she is better prepared for this encounter than in the past. “I definitely have a different feeling going into this match,” she said. “Because I feel like last time that I played her in Cincinnati, I lost this match way before it even started, and I don’t feel the same this time.
She added: “But I’m still the person who lost to her three times, and she’s won this tournament four times. I would love to be the one who is a favourite in this match, but I still don’t think it’s the case, even though I have this really long streak. But it’s not going to ruin my day or ruin my game. I still want to go out and try.”
The upcoming match will be a clash between Kostyuk’s current form and Swiatek’s historical success at Roland Garros.
