Knight Backs Chakravarthy to Trouble England’s Batsmen

Former England opener Nick Knight has said India should bring on Varun Chakravarthy as soon as Harry Brook comes in to bat.

Knight believes Chakravarthy needs to be unpredictable to trouble England’s batters.

Chakravarthy’s World Cup Performance

Chakravarthy began the T20 World Cup strongly, taking 12 wickets in the group stage. However, his impact lessened in the Super 8s, starting with the loss to South Africa where he went for 1/47. This was his third-most expensive spell in T20Is.

He also struggled in the subsequent matches, finishing with 1/35 against Zimbabwe and 1/40 against the West Indies.

Knight’s Advice for Chakravarthy

Knight suggests Chakravarthy may be bowling too many googlies and needs to add more variety. He said, “At the moment, he is bowling a few too many googlies; it has become a little too predictable.”

Despite this, Knight maintains that “he is a high-class bowler and will be a potent force for India.”

Chakravarthy’s Record Against England

England are Chakravarthy’s second-favourite opposition after South Africa. He has taken 14 wickets in just five games against them at an economy rate of 7.66.

Preparation for Upcoming Matches

Chakravarthy was seen fine-tuning his skills with bowling coach Morne Morkel and fielding coach T Dilip during an optional training session. India’s batting has been a major concern for the team management throughout the campaign.

With their left-heavy top order targeted by off-spinners, the hosts were compelled to rethink and alter their team combination.

Knight believes Chakravarthy “is a high-class bowler and will be a potent force for India.”
