Keylor Navas Extends Pumas Stay Amidst MLS and European Interest

Keylor Navas has renewed his contract with Pumas UNAM, extending his stay with the club until 2027, with an option for a further year in 2028.

The experienced Costa Rican goalkeeper’s decision comes after he initially turned down the club’s first offer, sources confirmed.

Navas Secures Pumas Future After Initial Rejection

Navas and the club’s management reached an agreement to extend his contract by one year, with the option of another. The goalkeeper was seeking improvements to the initial offer. After a few days, an agreement was reached on Thursday night for Navas to continue with Pumas.

His continuity with Pumas is now assured, despite offers from MLS and Europe. Navas and his family feel comfortable in Mexico. This was an important factor, in addition to its proximity to Costa Rica.

The Contract Negotiations

Navas sought a two-year agreement to ensure his continuity with the club. Given the club and the goalkeeper’s good form, the management made an effort to meet certain conditions.

The week was long and complex in negotiations, but both parties eventually reached an agreement that benefits them.

Navas’ Impact at Pumas

Navas is Pumas’ star player and a fan favourite. His saves have been key in several matches for the team, making him one of the best goalkeepers in Liga MX.

Navas arrived in the Apertura 2025 and immediately showed his quality and the reason he has three UEFA Champions League titles.

The renewal will be made official soon. Pumas fans can celebrate the news on Saturday when they host América at the Estadio Olímpico.
