Kevin Keegan Makes First Public Appearance Since Cancer Diagnosis

Kevin Keegan has made his first public appearance since receiving his cancer diagnosis earlier this year. His former club Newcastle United issued a statement confirming the news some months ago.

In a social media video, Keegan joked that he is “still alive”. The appearance comes after a hoax swept across social media falsely claiming he had only days to live.

Keegan Promotes Tyne Theatre Appearance

Keegan will be at the Tyne Theatre to look back on his career and life in conversation with Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves. The promotional clip showed Keegan looking sharp and healthy in a light-grey suit paired with a navy blue shirt.

When Graves asked how he was getting on, Keegan responded: “Still alive thank you”. He added: “Really looking forward to going to Newcastle, obviously. It’s not my second home, it’s my first home, really, as you know. When I’m going there, I’m always happy.”

The event was announced five weeks in advance. Graves shared a video revealing all the details at that time.

Graves Sets the Record Straight

Graves said Keegan had been going through a really tough time and had been very poorly. He added the good news was that Keegan had responded well to his treatment and was feeling a lot better.

Graves clarified that Keegan is not out of the woods yet, but he is feeling strong enough to come out and see people and his fans. He also said that Keegan will tell his stories and relive wonderful memories, which he enjoys doing so much.

When the bogus Facebook post began circulating, Graves wrote: “I can confirm that this statement is fake and not true. Kevin’s treatment is underway and he is responding well!

“I’d like to remind everyone the family have requested privacy at this time. Kevin has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of well wishes and kindness from fans around the world.”

The sight of Keegan in good health and high spirits will warm the hearts of football supporters across every club.
