Kessler’s Clay Court Form
McCartney Kessler began her French Open preparations positively, reaching the last eight in Charleston. However, since moving to European clay, the American has secured only one victory in four matches. This run includes a defeat to Elise Mertens in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifying.
Cristian’s Strengths on Clay
Statistically, clay is Cristian’s best surface. She is a great absorber of pace, which should pay off against an aggressive hitter like Kessler. Cristian’s approach of repelling most shots against Kessler could prove effective.
Other Matches at WTA Strasbourg
Alexandra Eala arrives at the WTA Strasbour International following a showing in Rome, where she reached the third round. Oleksandra Oliynykova came through the WTA Strasbourg qualifying with wins against Antonia Ruzic and Yulia Putintseva. Eala lost in two close sets to Elena Rybakina in Rome. Oliynykova won both her qualifying matches in straight sets.
Daria Kasatkina is also competing at the event and faces Samsonova. Kasatkina is 9-8 for the season. However, she secured five victories in her title-winning week at the La Bisbal 125K event earlier this month.
