The Los Angeles Chargers have signed guard Kayode Awosika.
Awosika’s Path to Los Angeles
Awosika (pronounced KY-oh-dee ah-woah-SHE-kah) arrives in Los Angeles following four seasons with Detroit. He played on an offensive line that contributed to a high-performing offence.
A five-year veteran, Awosika initially entered the league as an undrafted free agent with Philadelphia in 2021. He spent one season with the Eagles before joining Detroit, where he played for the Lions for the past four seasons.
Awosika has participated in 50 regular-season games, starting in 11. He also played in four postseason contests, starting one.
Detroit Impact
During his time in Detroit, Awosika was part of an offensive line that paved the way for three different 1,000-yard rushers. The line also protected quarterback Jared Goff, allowing him to throw for 4,000 yards in each season.
Collegiate Career
Before his NFL career, Awosika played for the University at Buffalo. After redshirting in 2017, he started 32 of 37 games for the Bulls.
In 2020, Awosika earned first-team All-Mid-American Conference honours. He blocked for the second-ranked rushing offence in the nation, which averaged 287.4 rushing yards per game.
Awosika was a second-team All-MAC selection in 2019, a year when the Bulls set a program record with 3,256 rushing yards. As a sophomore in 2018, he started 14 games at right tackle as Buffalo scored a school-record 36 touchdown runs.
