Kawa’s Huzhou Open Run
After failing to qualify for the Mutua Madrid Open 2026, Katarzyna Kawa (WTA 163) decided to change continent, but not the surface. The Pole is performing well on clay in Huzhou. On Wednesday, she won her second match and reached the quarter-finals.
The Kryniczanka, seeded third, defeated Alevtina Ibragimova (WTA 316) 6:4, 6:2. The match between the experienced Pole and the 21-year-old Russian lasted only 77 minutes, during which the Pole proved to be better by three breaks.
Match Details: Kawa vs Ibragimova
Kawa began Wednesday’s match with a break and then struggled to hold her serve. Ibragimova levelled the score at 3-3. From that moment on, the initiative belonged to the Pole. The 33-year-old secured a break and already had set points in the ninth game. She finally used her third chance on her own serve in the tenth game.
In the second set, the Russian had no chances. Kawa secured a break in the third game and then fully controlled the situation on the court. She added another break to make it 5:2, after which she used her second match point.
