Davis noted that early in his career, Trump relied on his shot-making ability. Davis added that over time, Trump has learned how to win matches even when he isn’t at his best. Dennis Taylor said Trump’s quality was evident.
Trump started to turn on the style as he edged closer to victory over Gary Wilson.
Wilson Reflects on His Struggles
Gary Wilson spoke about his struggles with his game. He said he feels like he’s battling some demons. Wilson said he has always been a better player than he is currently performing since the age of 13. He added that the yips are getting worse.
Wilson expressed frustration that people are not seeing the specific issues he is experiencing. He said he feels his game is letting him down as the years go on. Wilson described his situation as depressing.
Wilson said towards the end of the match you lose a bit of heart and it’s not composure. He said it’s a little bit of heart and a bit of sort of embarrassment when you know you’re playing worse at the end of the match than you were at the start.
Strong Line-Up Expected in Last 16
A very strong line-up is expected in the last 16. It’s looking likely that all top 16 players won their first round matches. Ten seeded players have finished their matches, and all 10 have won.
