Jordan Spieth’s Errant Tee Shot Hits Patron at The Masters

Jordan Spieth’s wayward tee shot struck a patron during the second round of The Masters. The incident occurred as Spieth played the first 14 holes at even par. He trailed Rory McIlroy by five shots at the time.

Spieth’s Lucky Bounce and Apology

Spieth’s drive veered left and appeared to be heading for the trees. However, the shot ricocheted back into the fairway after hitting a patron. A commentator noted the lucky bounce, saying it appeared to have hit the patron’s hand.

Spieth checked on the patron before continuing his round. He later gave the patron a signed glove as an apology.

A History of Errant Shots

Spieth has a history of creative shot-making that sometimes leads to errant shots. At the Memorial Tournament last spring, an errant drive nearly hit a group of fans. He managed to save par despite the wayward shot.

Spieth also struck spectators at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in 2024 and at the Players Championship three years ago. Last year at Augusta National, he accidentally struck a patron in the groin with his putter on the way to the first tee.

Spieth’s Masters Performance

Spieth birdied his first hole on Friday after shooting 72 in Thursday’s opening round. He then parred the next 10 holes before bogeying No. 12. Spieth concluded Friday’s second round at 1-over.

The 2017 Open Championship marked Spieth’s most recent major victory. He finished Friday’s second round at this year’s Masters in a tie for 32nd.
