Joey Bosa’s 49ers Move Unlikely Due to Budget Constraints

The San Francisco 49ers’ general manager, John Lynch, has cooled down talk of a potential move for Joey Bosa. This comes as the team says goodbye to Jauan Jennings.

Bosa Reunion Looking Doubtful

Lynch addressed the possibility of signing free agent defensive end Joey Bosa to play alongside his brother, Nick Bosa, a key player for the 49ers. He acknowledged the appeal, stating, “I know that would make Mama Bosa happy, but I don’t know if we can afford him.”

Cheryl Bosa, the mother of the two players, had previously fuelled speculation by posting a digitally altered image of her sons in 49ers uniforms on social media.

The team had considered signing Joey Bosa last offseason. However, he eventually signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills for $12.6 million.

Joey Bosa will turn 31 in July, and the 49ers have expressed a desire to get younger and faster.

Jennings Moves On as Evans and Kirk Arrive

Lynch also confirmed the departure of Jauan Jennings. He noted that free agent Mike Evans was deemed a more “dynamic fit” for their offense than Jennings. The 49ers had previously attempted to sign Jennings to a long-term contract.

“He’ll find a good home, and Jauan will go play great football for someone,” Lynch said. “I can’t say enough for what that guy did; when that guy stepped between the lines, man, he was a presence, and they had to deal with him, and he won us a lot of games.”

The 49ers have acquired Mike Evans and Christian Kirk. Lynch said Kirk, like Evans, “wanted to be in the right situation, and he liked our place.”

  • Mike Evans signed for $14.3 million next season.
  • Evans took less money than other teams were offering.
  • Christian Kirk has been a long-term target for the 49ers.

Lynch also mentioned that coach Kyle Shanahan had a clear vision of how Evans would integrate into the 49ers’ setup, following Evans’ successful run with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Draft Strategy and Receiver Room Dynamics

While there had been suggestions that the 49ers might look to draft another receiver early in the upcoming NFL Draft, Lynch downplayed this possibility. He highlighted the existing depth at the position, including Evans, Kirk, Ricky Pearsall, Demarcus Robinson, Jacob Cowing and Jordan Watkins.

Lynch expressed his enthusiasm about the positive influence Evans and Kirk will have. He believes they will benefit receivers coach Leonard Hankerson in meetings and during practice sessions.

Lynch feels lucky to have both Evans and Kirk on the team.

The 49ers could add someone later in the draft.
