João Fonseca is set to face Novak Djokovic in the third round of Roland Garros, a Grand Slam event held in Paris.
Match Schedule and Court Details
The match is scheduled for tomorrow and is slated to begin no earlier than 10:30 (Brasília time). It will be the third match on the Philippe-Chartrier court. Prior to their match, Magda Linette will play Iga Swiatek, and Mirra Adreeva will face Marie Bouzkova.
First ATP Tournament Duel
This will be the first face-off between Fonseca and Djokovic in an ATP tournament. Fonseca is coming off a comeback victory over Dino Prizmic, winning 3-2. Djokovic defeated Valentin Royer of France 3-1.
Fonseca’s Perspective on Facing Djokovic
The Brazilian player expressed that playing against Djokovic fulfills a personal ambition. “I always told the guys: I want to be in Djokovic’s bracket once, see if I can get at least one chance there and see what it’s like. I like big games, I like games where the vibe is different. So it’s about going all out, with the mindset of enjoying the match, but wanting to win,” he stated.
Djokovic’s Praise for Fonseca
Djokovic also commented on Fonseca, acknowledging his potential. “Fonseca has been applauded a lot in recent years. I think his potential and quality as a tennis player is obvious, no doubt. I think he is a high-level player. He really likes the big stages. He played a great game with Sinner, I think, this year, in Indian Wells. He beat Rublev, I think, in Australia, in straight sets. So he can definitely play great games,” the Serbian player noted.
The match promises to be an exciting encounter as Fonseca aims to seize his opportunity against one of the sport’s greats.
