Jessica Pegula Records Rare ‘Double Bagel’ Win at Italian Open

Jessica Pegula, regarded as the ‘world’s richest tennis player’, has achieved a rare ‘double bagel’ at the Italian Open.

Pegula’s family has a net worth of over £5.5 m, making them wealthier than any tennis player.

Pegula’s Dominant Victory

Pegula achieved the feat in the Italian Open, progressing to the fourth round. The 32-year-old is reportedly worth around $13 million.

The American beat Rebeka Masarova to achieve the rare feat of a double bagel. A double bagel in tennis occurs when a player wins a match in two sets with a score of 6-0, 6-0.

It only took the American an hour to beat the Swiss star. Masarova is the world No. 160.

Pegula Reflects on Her Performance

After the No. 5 seed bagelled Sonmez in her first match at the Italian Open, Pegula shared her thoughts. She said she feels like she is a little on edge where her game is at going into a competitive match.

Pegula stated she thought she played really solid and was doing everything pretty well. She was happy she was able to handle the first-match nerves.

Looking Ahead in the Tournament

This is the furthest Pegula has made it in the Italian Open singles draw since 2021. She got to the quarter-finals on her tournament debut in 2021.

Pegula will now face Anastasia Potapova for a place in the last eight.

Meanwhile, the world No.1 was dumped out of the Italian Open by Sorana Cirstea in the third round. The Serbian exited the Italian Open with a shock defeat against Dino Prizmic.
