The Oklahoma City Thunder have risen to prominence in recent seasons, fuelled by talents such as Jaylin and Jalen Williams.
Oklahoma City has plenty of standouts littered across its roster. Jalen has emerged as an All-NBA-caliber option, while Jaylin has proven a solid role player and become a viral sensation.
With nearly identical names, it can be difficult to differentiate between the two.
Jersey Numbers and Their Significance
Jaylin Williams wears No. 6. He originally wanted to wear No. 10, as he did while playing at Arkansas.
However, Oklahoma City had retired No. 10 for Nate McMillan, so Jaylin chose No. 6, reportedly selected by his father.
In August 2022, the league retired Bill Russell’s No. 6 jersey for all teams. Teams were no longer allowed to issue that number, but players already wearing it were grandfathered in.
After DeAndre Jordan’s contract expired with the Nuggets, Jaylin became the only player in the league to wear No. 6. He said he is honoured to wear the number retired by Bill Russell.
Jalen Williams sports No. 8. While at Santa Clara, Jalen wore No. 24 as a nod to Kobe Bryant.
Jalen said he grew up watching Kobe and tries to carry the ‘Mamba Mentality’.
With No. 24 unavailable, as Seattle retired it to pay tribute to Spencer Haywood, Jalen went for No. 8.
