James Harden’s Preparation for Game 7 Decider with Chuck Ellis

As the NBA playoffs intensify, player development specialist Chuck Ellis is working with James Harden. Ellis, an assistant coach at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), has become a trusted figure for elite talent during the pressures of the postseason.

Ellis has been working alongside Harden throughout this NBA playoff run. Their journey culminates in a Game 7.

Ellis’s Tailored Approach to Training

Ellis’s training approach is not uniform, with emphasis on individual player DNA. His work includes sharpening a guard’s footwork and refining a wing’s decision-making, with programmes completely bespoke.

Ellis spoke about his journey from Philly’s playgrounds to the NBA. He also discussed what makes Harden a generational trendsetter and why the casual basketball fan still misinterprets greatness.

Harden’s Playoff Schedule and Training

Ellis has been working with Harden since the playoffs started. The schedule has involved moving around a lot, with home-court advantage for the Suns series and more time on the road for the Detroit series.

Marcus Morris, who played with Harden in Houston, facilitated the connection between Ellis and Harden. Ellis has worked with Morris and other players since they’ve been in the league.

Customised Player Packages

Ellis emphasised that every player requires a different training approach. He tailors packages specifically to each player.

He stated that the approach used with Lou Williams would not be the same as with Marcus Morris, Wayne Ellington or James Harden. Off-season workouts also differ.

Ahead of a legacy-defining, win-or-go-home Game 7 this evening, Ellis’s work with Harden is reaching its peak.
