Jalen Hurts, the star quarterback, Super Bowl MVP, and now listed author, has reflected on a time when he questioned his football career. This came during an appearance on Good Morning America.
Hurts revealed last summer on the Today Show that he’ll be releasing a children’s book, illustrated by Nneka Myers. The book is titled “Better Than a Touchdown,” and you can order it from Penguin Random House.
Hurts’ College Doubts
During his appearance on Good Morning America, Hurts was asked by a young kid about the one time he considered walking away from the game of football. His response can be seen at the 3:36 mark of the video.
“There was a time in college where i really questioned, what’s going on and where do I go from here. I was counted out, broken and dissected.”
Hurts talked about having the courage to persevere and keep going at one of his lowest points.
“Better Than a Touchdown”
Better Than a Touchdown is an empowering story about friendship, teamwork, and achieving goals together.
The story follows Jalen, who is excited for the new school year because this is the year he’ll finally get to try out for the football team. But when he arrives at school, he learns the unthinkable—that the football team has been cut. He and his friends are devastated.
Jalen isn’t ready to give up, and with some advice from some friends, maybe—just maybe—they can save the day. Better than a Touchdown is a love letter to the power of community, being there for one another, and how a piece of good advice can change the course of a day.
Told with Jalen’s signature wisdom and gorgeous art by Nneka Myers, Better than a Touchdown carries a message we can all learn from: that by working together, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish.
Tagovailoa’s Release
Hurts’ lowest point likely refers to losing his position to Tua Tagovailoa. Coincidentally, Tagovailoa was released by the Dolphins on Monday.
