Indianapolis Weather: Rain Expected During Race Weekend

Indianapolis is set to experience unsettled weather conditions during the race weekend. Rain is anticipated to affect various events, so attendees should prepare accordingly.

Rain on Carb Day

Carb Day on Friday is expected to be cloudy and cool. Rain is on its way, with isolated showers around noon potentially turning into scattered and widespread rain during the afternoon and evening. A warm front is pushing north, bringing more humidity and rain showers. The rain chance will increase every hour. Expect light rain to approach Indianapolis by late morning.

Most showers will be south of I-70 during the morning. By the afternoon, more rain will fill in across the rest of Indiana. Highs will only reach the 60s during the afternoon. Cloudy skies are expected all day. A light southeast wind may make it feel cooler.

It is not expected to be severe weather, just plain old rain. Grab a rain jacket to stay dry and a little warmer.

Saturday’s Forecast

Saturday morning may still be wet with leftover rain. There may be rumbles. The forecast is trending drier for the Lucas Oil 500 Festival Parade in downtown Indianapolis, with rain chances down to 20%. Things may still be a bit damp and cool with 60s.

Sunday and Beyond

Sunday may also have some pop-up showers and storms. Temperatures could heat up to the 70s with more humidity. By Memorial Day, it should be drier. There may be isolated pop-ups the rest of the week next week, but expect lots of dry time and more sunshine.

Through Saturday afternoon, a half inch to two inches of rain is expected across central Indiana.
