The Indiana Fever have revealed renderings for their new $78 million practice facility. The Indiana Fever Sports Performance Center is set to become the largest and most advanced training facility in the WNBA.
The facility is expected to open before the start of the 2027 WNBA season, according to a news release.
A State-of-the-Art Facility for the Fever
The 108,000-square-foot, three-story building will be located in downtown Indianapolis, near Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where the Fever and the NBA’s Indiana Pacers play games. The facility will become the year-round home of the Fever.
Fever team president Kelly Krauskopf said that the renderings bring the team’s vision into focus. Krauskopf added that every element of the facility has been intentionally designed around their players, including how they train, recover, connect, and live day to day.
Krauskopf believes this will set a new standard for women’s sports and continue to position Indianapolis at the centre of that momentum.
Player-Focused Design and Amenities
The facility will feature light-filled dual practice courts and a comprehensive recovery suite. The recovery suite includes a sauna, massage and treatment rooms, a luxury locker room and private lounge.
Other amenities include a chef-driven nutrition program, and lifestyle and support amenities such as a content production studio, player nail, hair and makeup salon, and dedicated child care spaces.
There will also be front office and coaching spaces.
“The Hub,” a central gathering place designed to celebrate team achievements along with franchise history, will also feature in the facility.
The ground level will feature fan-facing experiences and a public lobby housing the Hall of Excellence to celebrate the franchise’s history.
Investment in Player Care
Fever centre Aliyah Boston said that player feedback and needs have been the top priority for this training centre. Boston is grateful that the organisation continues to invest in the Fever and set the standard for player care. She added that every aspect of their experience has been thought of, supporting who they are as players on the court just as much as who they are as people off of it.
Boston stated she can’t wait until they make this building their home next season.
WNBA Teams Investing in Dedicated Facilities
Construction began last summer. The Fever joined a list of WNBA franchises to have (or to have announced plans to build) a complex dedicated solely to their teams.
- In March 2022, the Las Vegas Aces moved into a 50,000-square-foot headquarters.
- In April 2024, the Seattle Storm announced their “Center for Basketball Performance,” a 50,000-square-foot facility.
- The Phoenix Mercury opened their 58,000-square-foot practice facility in July 2024.
- In November, the Los Angeles Sparks announced they would build a 40,000-square-foot facility.
Indiana selected Iowa’s Caitlin Clark with the No. 1 pick in 2024.
In 2023, the Fever ranked second to last in attendance, drawing a little more than 4,000 fans per game.
