Holmes Aims to Help Braves Overpower Reds Offense

The Atlanta Braves are set to face the Reds after a series against the Red Sox.

Grant Holmes is slated to pitch against Chris Paddack.

Holmes on the Mound Against Reds Lineup

Grant Holmes, who has a 3.78 ERA, will face off against Chris Paddack, who has a 6.86 ERA.

Holmes’ effectiveness has varied, partly due to difficulties maintaining form after multiple times through the lineup. Didier Fuentes is often ready to step in.

In his last start, Holmes pitched five innings, striking out ten and walking two against the Nationals, while allowing two solo home runs on six hits. Before that, he pitched six innings of scoreless ball against the Red Sox, striking out four, walking one, and allowing five hits.

Holmes’ xERA is 4.17. Hitters have a hard-hit rate of 44.4 percent against him.

Most Reds players have had success against Holmes, albeit with limited at-bats. Six of the nine hitters who have faced him have an average of .333 or better. Friedl has two home runs in four at-bats against Holmes.

Paddack’s Challenges and Braves’ Opportunities

Chris Paddack has experienced some misfortune. His xERA is 4.32, which is better than his actual ERA of 6.86.

Paddack can induce hitters to chase pitches outside the strike zone 33.7 percent of the time. Albies, Harris, and Riley are known for chasing pitches.

Mike Yastrzemski has a .400 average and a 1.324 OPS in twenty-five at-bats against Paddack, including three home runs. No other Braves player has more than eleven at-bats against Paddack.

Game time is Friday, May 29th, 6:40 pm EDT, at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, OH.

The game will be broadcast on 680 AM / 93.7 FM The Fan.
