Harder Scores as Bayern Munich Edge Past Man Utd in Champions League

Pernille Harder was on the scoresheet as Bayern Munich played Manchester United in the Women’s Champions League.

Harder’s Goal the Difference

The ball eventually fell to Pernille Harder, who sent a tame effort at Phallon Tullis-Joyce from the edge of the box. An easy catch for the United keeper.

Pernille Harder’s goal takes her to 11 quarter-final goals in the Women’s Champions League and puts her level with Hanna Ljungberg. Only Brazilian legend Marta has more.

The run and the finish from Harder was very, very impressive. From a defensive perspective, Le Tissier may have given her too much respect. It was questioned whether Lundkvist could have provided cover to prevent a one-on-one situation.

Match Summary: Bayern Munich vs Manchester United

Bayern Munich beat Manchester United.

Bayern are trying to keep control. Bayern haven’t really got going in this second half yet.

Some nice play from Bayern Munich as they pass their way through the United press. They still haven’t got anywhere near the United goal, though.

Manchester United have been the better side in these five minutes since the break. Marc Skinner’s team look a whole lot more organised and Bayern Munich are struggling to break out of their own half.

A couple of corners to start the second half for Manchester United, but they can’t make anything of them as Fridolina Rolfo whips the ball straight into the arms of Ena Mahmutovic.

As soon as Man Utd can increase the tempo, they seem more dangerous, because the Bayern defence gets a little more stretched.

Other Champions League News

The winner of this quarter-final tie will face either Real Madrid or Barcelona in the semi-finals.

It’s probably fair to assume that it will be the Catalan giants. They thrashed Real 6-2 earlier this evening to put themselves firmly in control going into the second leg.

Very happy with that half. After the first goal I began to fear the worst as Bayern can do that to you, however the team grew into it and deserve to be level at the half.

Manchester United play their way out from the back and Melvine Malard sets Hanna Lundkvist on her way with a beautiful diagonal ball. That would have been pretty special if it had came to anything, but the ball bounces out for a Bayern goalkick.

Looking ahead, Manchester United will be looking to overturn the deficit in the second leg in Munich.
