Fritz to Face Michelsen at Indian Wells Masters

Taylor Fritz is preparing to face fellow American Alex Michelsen at the Indian Wells Masters. Their match is scheduled for Monday, when the remaining fourth-round spots will be decided. Daniil Medvedev is also set to continue his title quest against Sebastian Baez.

Fritz Seeks Revenge Against Michelsen

The match between Fritz and Michelsen will be only their second head-to-head contest. Their first encounter was on the red clay of Geneva in 2024, where Michelsen prevailed 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Fritz will be aiming for revenge on his Indian Wells stomping grounds. Indian Wells is his favourite tournament, which he won in 2022 after reaching the semi-finals in 2021. He opened with a 6-3, 6-7(8), 6-1 victory over Jake Fearnley. Despite dropping the second set, he was the dominant player from start to finish.

Michelsen is coming off a three-set thriller against Ugo Humbert, which he survived 7-5, 6-7(5), 7-6(6) after two hours and 46 minutes. Before that, he secured a 6-3, 6-4 victory over qualifier Daniel Meria. While Michelsen is playing well, Fritz is expected to be more rested and is considered a legitimate contender to reach at least the semi-finals.

Fritz is predicted to win in two sets.

Medvedev to Face Baez

Medvedev is preparing for a second encounter with Baez. Their only previous meeting was at the 2023 U.S. Open, where Medvedev won 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(6).

Baez has earned 14 ATP-level match wins in 2026. He has advanced by ousting Chun-Hsin Tseng and Jiri Lehecka in straight sets. Medvedev is predicted to win in two sets.

Looking Ahead

The BNP Paribas Open is an appropriate setting for this showdown between California natives Fritz and Michelsen. The crowd will undoubtedly be engrossed in the match.
