Frank Warren Defends Boxers Fighting Each Other at Queensberry

Frank Warren has spoken about what he believes people misunderstand regarding his boxers fighting each other. This comes as Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley are set to fight in May.

Dubois vs Wardley and the Queensberry Stable

Dubois and Wardley, both signed to Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, will compete for Wardley’s WBO heavyweight title. The fight is scheduled for 9 May at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena.

Moses Itauma, another of Warren’s British heavyweights, will headline against Jermaine Franklin at the same venue. A victory for Itauma could lead to a fight with the winner of Wardley vs Dubois later in the year.

With Queensberry having built a strong heavyweight stable, match-ups between their own fighters were inevitable. Warren was asked if these types of fights present any awkwardness for him.

Warren’s Perspective on Internal Fights

Warren believes “everybody wins”. He stated that Queensberry is making fights happen, where politics may have prevented them in the past. Warren also pointed out that a loss isn’t the end of the world for a boxer.

“You look at Derek Chisora. What is it now? He’s got 13 losses on his record and he’s still getting involved in fights. So, we don’t give up on guys.”

Warren explained the aim is to get boxers to the peak of their abilities for these fights, and to maximise their earnings. He also noted the importance of reconnecting people with the heavyweight division.

The Appeal of Dubois vs Wardley

Warren described Fabio and Daniel’s upcoming fight as “cracking”. He said there’s a strong argument for either fighter winning. These are compelling, ticket-selling fights where the fighters are doing well, Queensberry is doing well, and the public are getting great value.

According to Warren, fans are getting on the journey with the fighters and will follow their favourite heavyweight. He added that people often lament missed opportunities for fights between specific boxers, but Queensberry is making those fights happen now.

Itauma vs Franklin will stream live exclusively on DAZN worldwide.
