Football Clubs Mark International Women’s Day with #GiveToGain

International Women’s Day, recognised every year on 8 March, highlights the achievements of women and the work still needed to reach true gender equality.

The day has been marked for more than a century. It has evolved into a global moment for activism, reflection and celebration of women’s contributions across society.

The #GiveToGain Campaign

For 2026, the official campaign theme is “Give To Gain”. The concept is that when organisations, fans and institutions invest more in women’s sport, the entire sporting ecosystem benefits.

More support leads to better leagues, larger audiences and stronger role models for the next generation.

The principle of “Give To Gain” also applies at grassroots level. Investing in girls’ academies, coaching pathways and youth competitions creates stronger talent pools in the long term.

Chelsea’s Commitment to Equality

Chelsea FC in England launched their own campaign: Every woman. Every girl. Every season.

The club say they are “taking demonstrable action in the progression of gender equality within the world of football and beyond, and we are striving to better meet the needs of the women in our world – creating a place where they are understood, empowered and given the opportunity to thrive.”

Held alongside the #GiveToGain campaign, Chelsea brought together various players from across the club who participated in intergenerational mentorship workshops, writing pledges of advice and reflections: giving and receiving.

Surprise guests Sam Kerr and Kadeisha Buchanan also took part in the initiative.
