Flyers Score Twice Early But Hurricanes Take 2-0 Series Lead

Taylor Hall’s overtime goal helped the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2. The Hurricanes now hold a 2-0 lead in their second-round series of the NHL playoffs.

Hall’s Overtime Winner

Hall slipped the puck past Dan Vladar at 18:54 of overtime. Sean Walker provided a short feed to Hall, who carried the puck in on the left side. Hall was knocked to his knees near the top of the crease but hopped up and beat Vladar.

Seth Jarvis scored in the third period to force overtime for Carolina, and Nikolaj Ehlers also scored. Frederik Andersen made 34 saves. The Hurricanes are now 6-0 in the postseason.

Flyers’ Early Lead

Jamie Drysdale and Sean Couturier scored in a 39-second span of the first period for the Flyers. Philadelphia outshot Carolina 15-8 in the overtime. The Flyers couldn’t beat Andersen after their initial flurry.

Vladar made 40 saves, stopping Eric Robinson twice on breakaways in the second period. Travis Sanheim cleared a loose puck that had slipped behind Vladar in the crease.

Turning the Tide

Ehlers scored a power-play goal in the first period. He then fed Jarvis, who beat Vladar from the right side midway through the third period, forcing overtime.

Team Updates

Philadelphia played a second straight game without Owen Tippett due to an undisclosed injury. Alexander Nikishin took warmups but didn’t play as he recovers from a concussion.

The series shifts to Philadelphia for Game 3 on Thursday.
