Fenerbahce ‘Confident’ of Mason Greenwood Marseille Deal

Fenerbahce are growing increasingly confident of signing Mason Greenwood from Marseille. The Turkish club believes it can strike a deal worth around 45m euros (£38.36m) with the French side for the 24-year-old former Manchester United forward. Marseille have been open to doing a deal for Greenwood.

Fenerbahce and Roma have both been linked with Greenwood throughout the summer. Before the elections at the beginning of June, both of Fenerbahce’s presidential candidates had made their interest in the player known.

Greenwood’s Impact at Marseille

Since joining Marseille from United in a £26.6m deal in July 2024, Greenwood has scored 37 goals in 66 Ligue 1 games. This contributes to a total of 48 goals in 76 appearances across all competitions for the club.

In the 2025-26 Ligue 1 season, Greenwood finished joint second in the golden boot standings with 16 goals, behind Rennes’ Esteban Lepaul.

United’s Sell-on Clause and Prior History

When Greenwood moved to Marseille, his former club, Manchester United, had negotiated a “sizeable sell-on fee.” This clause is thought to be around 40% of any future transfer.

United had ruled out Greenwood returning to Old Trafford following an internal inquiry. This decision came despite charges of attempted rape and assault against him being dropped in February 2023. He subsequently joined Spanish outfit Getafe on loan for the 2023-24 season before his permanent move to Marseille.

Fenerbahce’s European Ambitions

Fenerbahce finished second for the fifth successive season in the Turkish Super Lig. The club will participate in the Champions League second qualifying round this month, where they are set to play Polish side Gornik Zabrze.

With Marseille open to a deal, Fenerbahce now believe they can secure the services of the forward.
