Eury Perez Injury Scare: Marlins Ace Leaves Game Early

Eury Perez’s start against the Toronto Blue Jays was cut short on Wednesday when he left the game with a hamstring spasm. The Miami Marlins rotation felt an immediate concern as Perez departed early.

Perez, one of the franchise’s key rotation pieces, missed 2024 after Tommy John surgery. The 23-year-old right-hander returned in 2025.

Hamstring Spasm Halts Promising Outing

Perez left the game because his hamstring spasmed while he was stretching out between innings, according to multiple sources. This is a more encouraging first read than an arm-related concern.

Before his exit, Pérez delivered one of his sharpest outings of the season. He pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with zero walks and seven strikeouts on 55 pitches.

The Marlins led 1-0 in the fourth inning at the time. Otto Lopez’s first-inning RBI single scored Xavier Edwards for the game’s only run.

While stretching in between innings, Perez looked like he hurt himself. He immediately sat down on the Marlins bench. He needed to be helped out of the dugout and down the steps towards the clubhouse. RHP Michael Petersen entered the game.

Perez’s Dominant Performance Before Injury

Pérez had Toronto chasing through the first three innings. His pitches included a 99 mph four-seamer, 96 mph sinker, 88 mph slider and 78 mph curve.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had one of Toronto’s two hits against him. The Blue Jays had only two total bases and one runner left on through the early innings.

Pérez entered the day 3-6 with a 4.91 ERA. He had just delivered one of his better starts of 2026 against the Mets, allowing one run over 6 1/3 innings in a 2-1 Marlins win.

Wednesday looked like another stabilizing turn after Sandy Alcantara was hit for eight runs Tuesday in Toronto’s 8-1 win, which tied the series at one game apiece.

Marlins Bullpen Tasked With Protecting Lead

Miami’s bullpen now has to protect a tight game much earlier than planned. The larger concern shifts to Pérez’s status.

Any early exit from Pérez carries extra weight given his history, especially on a day when his stuff looked good enough to take over the game.
