Emanuel Wilson to Leave Green Bay Packers as Free Agent

Emanuel Wilson’s time with the Green Bay Packers has come to an end. After three seasons as a backup running back, Wilson is set to join another team. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry and scored seven touchdowns for the Packers.

Wilson’s Departure as Free Agent

The Packers did not submit a restricted free agent tender to Wilson. A source indicated that he will not re-sign with the team, unlike some other restricted free agents who didn’t receive tender offers. To keep Wilson, the Packers would have needed to make him a one-year offer of $3.52 million.

Wilson became a free agent on March 11, which allows him to sign with any team in the league. Although a deal hasn’t been finalised, Wilson is expected to sign with a team other than the Packers soon.

Emanuel Wilson’s Packers Career

Wilson, an undrafted free agent in 2023, made 41 appearances for the Packers. He rushed 242 times for 1,083 yards and seven touchdowns. He also recorded 30 receptions for 170 yards and a touchdown.

Packers’ Options at Running Back

The Packers will need to add to their running back options. They may need to find a new backup for starter Josh Jacobs. Third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd is an option, but he has only played in one game in two years due to injury.

Lloyd has struggled with constant hamstring injuries, even after consulting specialists. Chris Brooks has re-signed with the Packers on a two-year, $4.85 million contract. Brooks is considered more of a third-down back.

The Packers also have Pierre Strong and Damien Martinez, who spent time on the practice squad. Strong, 27, has 99 career carries but did not have any in three game-day elevations last year. Martinez, 22, signed to the practice squad on Dec. 30 and then to the offseason roster after the season.

Wilson is expected to sign with someone other than the Packers soon.
