Edwin Diaz Placed on Injured List by Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed right-handed pitcher Edwin Díaz on the injured list with right elbow loose bodies. A corresponding move saw the club recall left-handed pitcher Jake Eder.

Diaz’s Performance and Velocity Concerns

Díaz, a 32-year-old veteran, has a 1-0 record with a 10.50 ERA in seven games this season. Across his 10-year career, he is 29-36 with a 2.91 ERA in 527 games. The three-time All-Star has recorded 257 saves in 300 opportunities and 849 strikeouts.

Dodgers manager Roberts voiced concerns following Díaz’s recent outing against Colorado. Roberts said, “Today was a tough evaluation. I know what it’s supposed to look like, and when it doesn’t look like that, it gets a little concerning, really. So, I’ll have a conversation with him.”

Díaz’s fastball velocity has decreased this season. His four-seam fastball averaged between 97.2 and 99.1 mph over the last four seasons, but this season it has averaged 95.7 mph. On Sunday at Coors Field, it reached as low as 92.8 mph. He has only thrown six slower fastballs in his career.

Jake Eder’s Recall

Jake Eder, 27, was acquired from the Nationals on April 1 for cash considerations. This season, he has appeared in three games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing two runs. In 2025, he pitched for the Los Angeles Angels, making eight appearances and going 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA in 18.1 innings.

  • Eder made his Major League debut on September 17, 2024, as a member of the Chicago White Sox.
  • He allowed one run in two innings in his debut.
  • Eder was drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 First Year Player Draft by the Miami Marlins.
  • He has pitched in 72 Minor League games, going 10-29 with a 5.35 ERA and 356 strikeouts in 312.2 innings.

The Dodgers will hope that Eder can provide stability to the pitching staff in Díaz’s absence.
