Edouard Rejects Haiti World Cup Call-Up Amid France Ambitions

Odsonne Edouard will not be joining up with Haiti for this summer’s World Cup Finals.

The Celtic hero is eligible for the Caribbean nation and was approached about being called up for the squad that will head to the United States this summer to face Scotland, Brazil and Morocco.

Edouard’s Reasons for Declining

The Lens hitman has turned down the chance to link up with Sebastian Migne’s men.

Edouard would rather keep his chances of a full France cap open after representing Les Bleus at Under 21 level.

He also admitted it wouldn’t feel right declaring for Haiti having played no part in their qualifying campaign.

“No, I didn’t feel legitimate playing in this World Cup because the players fought to qualify and I wasn’t going to show up at the last minute to take advantage of this World Cup.”

Haiti’s Squad and World Cup Opener

Haiti have included Sunderland’s Wilson Isidor after an impressive Premier League campaign for the Black Cats.

He will likely lead the line against Steve Clarke’s team in Miami in the Group C opener on June 14.
