Dundee vs Dundee United: Goodwin on Managing Derby Emotions

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin has emphasised the importance of emotional control ahead of the match against Dundee. Goodwin acknowledges the significance of the game for supporters. He also stated that any player not motivated for this match is “in the wrong game”.

Managing emotions, according to Goodwin, is crucial, but he also wants the team to maintain an aggressive approach. He believes the teams are closely matched and that success will depend on who handles the occasion best. Goodwin added that winning early battles will be key to building momentum.

Pressley’s Focus: Premiership Safety

Dundee head coach Stephen Pressley revealed he hasn’t discussed the possibility of overtaking Dundee United in the league with his players. Instead, Pressley is prioritising securing their place in the Scottish Premiership. He said their focus is on accumulating the points needed to guarantee their future in the division. A victory in the match against United would be a significant step towards that goal.

Pressley wants his team to play with confidence, demonstrating controlled aggression without any complacency. He noted that historically, averaging a point per game is usually enough to secure safety, setting a target of reaching 38 points.

Rangers made substitutions, replacing Tuur Rommens with Jayden Meghoma and Ryan Naderi with Bojan Miovski.

St Mirren’s Dan Nlundulu received treatment after a challenge with Jack Butland. Mikey Moore had a shot saved by St Mirren goalkeeper Shamal George, who also saved at Moore’s feet after a poor touch.

Steven Thompson, watching St Mirren’s team selection, quipped that Mark O’Hara was at right back, Miguel Freckleton at left-back, and Liam Donnelly in central defence.

Ahead of the Dundee clash, Goodwin said some players were unlucky to miss out but would be ready to make a positive impact.
