Dolphins Trade Down, Acquire Extra Draft Picks From Cowboys

The Miami Dolphins made a trade with the Dallas Cowboys during the NFL Draft, moving down one spot from the 11th overall pick. Miami’s general manager, Jon-Eric Sullivan, made the call to trade with Dallas.

Dolphins Gain Extra Selections

As part of the deal, the Dolphins acquired the Cowboys’ 177th and 180th picks, both in Round 5. In return, Dallas received the No. 11 pick.

The Dolphins then used the No. 12 pick to select Alabama offensive lineman Kaydn Proctor.

Sullivan’s Draft Strategy

The move aligns with the Dolphins’ approach to the draft. The Dolphins entered the draft with two first-round picks, Nos. 11 and 30, and 11 total picks, including seven among the top 100.

Sullivan had previously indicated his openness to making trades during the draft, particularly to trade down and accumulate more selections, given the team’s rebuilding needs.

During his pre-draft news conference, Sullivan stated, “It’s more likely that we would move back and pick up picks than give up picks to go forward.”

The Dolphins, under Jon-Eric Sullivan, aimed to stockpile selections during this rebuilding year.
