Detroit Tigers’ Jake Rogers Injured in Batting Cage Mishap

Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers sustained an injury during a batting cage incident.

Rogers’ Batting Cage Injury

Tigers manager AJ Hinch reported that Rogers was removed from the game against the Pirates due to a mild concussion. The injury occurred in a freak mishap during batting practice. Rogers lost control of his bat, which then ricocheted and struck him in the face.

Despite the concussion, Hinch anticipates Rogers will be ready for Opening Day. The Tigers are scheduled to open their season against San Diego next Thursday at 4:10 p.m.

Tigers’ Game Against the Pirates

The Tigers faced off against the Pirates, ultimately losing 3-1. Casey Mize pitched four innings, allowing three earned runs and recording six strikeouts.

Minor League Reassignments

The Tigers have reassigned several non-roster players to their minor league camp. These players include left-hander Konnor Pilkington, right-handers Jack Little, Scott Effross, and Tanner Rainey, as well as outfielder Corey Julks.

Julks had a strong showing in camp, going 9 for 27 with three home runs and nine RBIs, resulting in a 1.165 OPS. Despite his performance, his chances of making the Opening Day roster were slim, barring an injury to another player.

Rainey, who has experience in eight big-league seasons, allowed one run in 7.2 spring innings but walked six batters. Pilkington struck out eight batters without issuing any walks in 7.1 innings this spring. Effross’s camp was cut short due to an oblique strain.

Little struck out nine in nine innings this spring, but he also allowed six runs, four of which were earned.

Hinch expects Rogers to be ready for Opening Day.
