Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) delivered a dominant performance against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), securing a 43-run victory at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Tim David’s explosive batting, particularly his unbeaten 70, was instrumental in RCB’s success. CSK’s bowling attack struggled to contain RCB, who posted their third-highest total in the Indian Premier League.
David and Patidar’s Partnership Boosts RCB
RCB’s innings was highlighted by an unbroken 99-run partnership between Tim David and Rajat Patidar. David’s unbeaten 70 came off just 25 balls and included three fours and eight sixes.
Patidar contributed an unbeaten 48 from 19 balls, complementing David’s aggressive approach. The pair targeted Noor Ahmad and Anshul Kamboj, accelerating the scoring rate in the later overs.
David capitalised on a stroke of luck when he was bowled off a no-ball by Kamboj at 28, going on to reach his half-century in 21 balls. Jamie Overton conceded 30 runs in the 19th over as David hit four sixes and a boundary.
CSK’s Early Wicket Losses Hamper Chase
CSK’s response faltered early as they lost three wickets in the first three overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad edged Jacob Duffy in the opening over, with Devdutt Padikkal taking the catch.
Ayush Mhatre became Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 200th IPL wicket, offering a catch to Patidar. Sanju Samson’s struggles continued as he edged a Duffy delivery to Padikkal at first slip.
Sarfaraz Khan scored a fifty, but his stumping by Jitesh Sharma off Krunal Pandya further diminished CSK’s chances. Prashant Veer (43) and Jamie Overton (37) added a 57-run stand, but Bhuvneshwar dismissed Veer, sealing the result.
Other RCB Contributions
Before David’s late onslaught, Padikkal (50) provided a solid foundation with his second consecutive half-century. Phil Salt (46) and Virat Kohli (28) also contributed, although they failed to convert their starts into bigger scores.
- Tim David scored an unbeaten 70 off 25 balls.
- Rajat Patidar scored an unbeaten 48 off 19 balls.
- RCB scored 97 runs in the final five overs.
CSK’s bowling attack had appeared under pressure in their previous matches, and RCB exploited those vulnerabilities. RCB ended up piling up their third-highest total in the Indian Premier League.
