Darby Allin is set to challenge MJF for the AEW World Championship at Spring BreakThru. The match arrives following the events of Dynasty, where Allin defeated Andrade El Ídolo to earn his title shot, and MJF defeated Kenny Omega to remain champion. Spring BreakThru will be broadcast live from Everett, Washington.
Allin’s World Title Opportunity
Allin’s upcoming match against MJF for the AEW World Championship is particularly significant. Everett, Washington is just 20 minutes from where he began his wrestling training. He will be aiming to achieve his ultimate goal of becoming AEW World Champion.
The match was only made official three days prior, but it feels like it has been building since Day 1 of AEW, according to reports. MJF had recently gone into business with Don Callis to keep Allin away from the AEW World Championship. Callis put Andrade El Ídolo in the way of Allin’s world title chase this past Sunday at Dynasty, but Allin still found a way to beat him.
Previous Encounters Between Allin and MJF
Allin and MJF have a history that predates and includes their time in AEW. At Full Gear 2021, MJF defeated Allin with a headlock takeover after using his Dynamite Diamond Ring. This match was a defining moment for both, raising their profile considerably.
The Full Gear match was the last time the two met one-on-one. Since then, they’ve had only three matches. One such match was MJF retaining the AEW World Championship in a Four-Way against Allin, “Jungle” Jack Perry, and Sammy Guevara at Double or Nothing nearly three years ago.
Other Championship Matches at Spring BreakThru
The TBS Championship will also be defended as Willow Nightingale faces Kamille. Kamille made a return to AEW and attacked Nightingale on the day of Dynasty. Nightingale will now get a chance to show why she’s the “Comeback Killer,” while Kamille tries to finish the job she started and become TBS Champion.
Kevin Knight, who won the vacant TNT Championship in the Casino Gauntlet at Dynasty, will defend against Claudio Castangolo of the Death Riders. Knight won’t have much time to celebrate as his first defense comes quickly.
Jericho Addresses Dynasty Loss
Chris Jericho, who had his in-ring return at Dynasty spoiled by Ricochet, will be interviewed by Renee Paquette. The interview will address his loss and his next steps.
