Daniel Susac, a Giants prospect, enjoyed a noteworthy MLB starting debut. However, his nephew Chuck arguably stole the show. The moment went viral on social media.
Susac’s Solid Start
Susac, the brother of former big leaguer Andrew, singled in his first at-bat. He also singled in his second at-bat. He walked in his third at-bat and then singled once again in his final at-bat. According to Sarah Langs, he is the first Giant to reach safely in his first four career at-bats in nearly 20 years.
Chuck Steals the Show
By his third hit in the seventh, Susac’s teammates were going crazy. The broadcast crew was feeling the excitement. Susac’s family, around 20-strong at Oracle Park, were losing their minds. However, one family member may have been loving it more than the others: his nephew Chuck.
Matt Susac, Chuck’s dad and Daniel’s brother, said they were dealing with the Terrible Twos. It was three hours past bedtime, his grandfather had been feeding him Dip ‘n Dots all day and Paw Patrol kept getting interrupted on his phone. Matt described it as ‘the perfect storm of chaos’.
Matt said it has been ‘a whirlwind’ of a day. Friends have been sending him the video and seeing it pop up everywhere. He particularly enjoyed the part where Ella calmly walks up to him and gently takes Chuck out of his arms. He called it a ‘Perfect mom moment right there.’
Ella said that Chuck is a two-year-old, and ‘He has big emotions’. She added, ‘We all had big emotions last night’. When comforted by his mum, Chuck reportedly said, ‘That way!’ and wanted to go get french fries, Ella laughed.
A Family Affair
Even after his incredible game, the catcher knew he was playing second fiddle to his nephew Chuck. Ella told Dan on the field after the game, ‘Hey look, you’re the second-most famous Susac tonight’. Dan replied, ‘Oh yeah, Chuck?’ He thought it was so funny. At that point, Chuck was jumping up and down trying to give him hugs, and Dan thought it was hilarious.
