Damar Hamlin has re-signed with the Buffalo Bills on a one-year contract. The team announced the news on Friday.
Hamlin’s 2025 season was cut short due to a pectoral injury suffered in practice. The injury required surgery, ending his season in October after only five games.
Hamlin’s Career With the Bills
Hamlin was drafted by the Bills in the sixth round of the 2021 draft. He initially played as a backup and on special teams.
He had opportunities to start in 2022 due to injuries. This included the game on January 2, 2023, against the Cincinnati Bengals where he experienced cardiac arrest on the field during ‘Monday Night Football’.
Return to Football
After recovering, Hamlin was medically cleared to return to football. He chose to continue playing and served as a backup in 2023.
In 2024, Hamlin earned the starting safety job. He started 14 games and recorded the first two interceptions of his career.
Impact Beyond the Field
Hamlin’s impact extends beyond football. His Chasing M’s Foundation received millions following his cardiac arrest.
Since then, Chasing M’s, Hamlin, the Bills, the NFL, and others have promoted heart health awareness. This has been done through CPR and AED education, including new legislation and CPR tours.
Safeties Room Additions
Hamlin returns to a Bills safeties room that has new faces. C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Geno Stone have been added in free agency this offseason.
Bills coach Joe Brady and GM Brandon Beane have discussed their plans for Buffalo’s offense and defense this season.
Hamlin, now 28, looks to contribute to the Bills after his season was cut short.
