Corinthians Face Atlético Mineiro Amid Relegation Concerns

Corinthians and Atlético-MG are set to clash at the Neo Química Arena. The match is for the 17th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

The match will be Maycon’s first against his former club since leaving Corinthians.

Maycon’s Return to Face Former Club

Maycon, 28, departed Corinthians at the start of the season after negotiations for his stay fell through. Corinthians, encouraged by Dorival Jr., attempted to reach an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk, who held his rights. However, no agreement was reached, leading Maycon to sign a three-season contract with Atlético-MG.

During his time with Corinthians, Maycon played 245 matches, scored 18 goals, and provided 13 assists. He won five trophies: the Campeonato Paulistas of 2017, 2018 and 2025, the Campeonato Brasileiro of 2017 and the Copa do Brasil of 2025.

In his final season with Timão, Maycon played 43 games, scored three goals and provided one assist before his move to Galo.

In 2026, he has played 20 games and scored two goals for the team from Minas Gerais.

Corinthians’ Relegation Battle

Corinthians are under pressure heading into the match. The team is currently in 17th place in the Brasileirão, with 18 points, placing them in the relegation zone. They have the worst attack in the competition, with only 14 goals scored.

Corinthians are coming off a 3-1 defeat to Botafogo.

Atlético-MG’s Recovery

Atlético-MG are in a period of recovery in the league table. The club is in tenth position with 21 points. They are aiming to close in on the top six in the league.

Atlético-MG enter the match on a three-game unbeaten run. They defeated Mirassol 3-1 in the previous round.

Róger Guedes was present at the Neo Química Arena to watch the match between Corinthians and Atlético-MG.
