Colton Cowser’s Walk-Off Homer Sinks Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers’ struggles continued with a 5-3 walk-off loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. The game was the first of a Sunday doubleheader in Baltimore.

Cowser’s Clutch Homer

With Detroit holding a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the ninth, closer Kenley Jansen aimed for a save. With two runners in scoring position and two outs, Jansen faced Colton Cowser, reaching an 0-2 count. Cowser then hit a 95 mph sinker into center field for a three-run homer, securing a 5-3 victory.

Detroit announcer Dan Dickerson expressed his disbelief as the ball sailed into the stands, saying: “You’ve gotta be kidding me.”

Tigers’ Losing Streak

The defeat marked the eighth straight loss for the Tigers. Detroit did manage to win the second game of the doubleheader, 4-1, marking only their fifth victory in May. Before that win, Detroit had lost 16 of their past 18 games.

  • Detroit has been swept three times in May.
  • Sweeps include series against the New York Mets and Cleveland Guardians.

Looking Ahead for Detroit

Detroit will next host the Los Angeles Angels. The Tigers will hope to turn things around in that battle.
