Charles Barkley has given high praise to Michigan State men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo after Michigan State’s 77-69 win over Louisville in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Barkley is working as an analyst on CBS, TBS and TNT for the Tournament.
Barkley’s admiration for Izzo
Barkley said, ‘His teams never underachieve’. He added, ‘It’s actually a beautiful thing to watch. … They play a certain way, and you have to play his way.’
Barkley also commented on Izzo’s coaching methods. ‘He’s one of the few coaches that can still yell at his players. … If you don’t want to be coached, you probably shouldn’t come to Michigan State. I love the fact that he never backed down.’
Michigan State’s Sweet Sixteen Berth
Izzo is taking the Spartans to the Sweet 16 for the 17th time in 31 seasons as Michigan State’s coach.
Michigan State (27-7) will play Connecticut or UCLA in the Sweet 16 on Friday in Washington, D.C.
