Carragher on Salah’s Liverpool Exit and Lasting Legacy

Jamie Carragher has spoken about Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool career ahead of the player’s impending departure from Anfield.

Carragher exclusively told the ECHO that Salah is ‘one of the greatest players to have played for the club’. He reflected on the Liverpool star’s consistency as his best quality.

Salah’s Impending Liverpool Exit

Salah announced last month that this season would be his final one at Anfield. He arrived from Roma in the summer of 2017 for around £36m.

Carragher believes Liverpool might have to look to a different profile of player in the search for Salah’s successor.

A Storybook Career on Merseyside

Salah has enjoyed a storybook career on Merseyside. During his time at Liverpool, Salah has won two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

He also won two Carabao Cups, the FA Cup in 2022 and the Club World Cup in December 2019.

Salah’s Impressive Availability

Salah has played 436 of the 496 Liverpool matches since he arrived. He has made 323 appearances from a possible 335 in the Premier League.

Carragher talked up Salah’s ability to make himself consistently available for the team as one of his major strengths.

Doubts Turned to Dominance

Carragher relayed an insight from Jurgen Klopp, who suggested Salah had initial doubts about where he would fit into the team. Salah was reportedly worried about Sadio Mane playing on the right.

Carragher recalls watching Salah’s debut at Watford. He ‘could just see straight away he was going to get goals because of the runs he was making, he so was electric’.

Carragher added: ‘But no-one would have envisaged what he would go on to become for Liverpool’.

Carragher Praises Salah’s Mentality

Carragher said that Salah’s consistency and desire to play every week are admirable qualities. ‘He wants to play every game, he wants to break records’, Carragher stated.

Carragher believes that not every player possesses Salah’s mentality. He contrasted Salah with players who are content with having a few good games and then taking a breather.

Salah is the Reds’ third highest goalscorer of all time with 255.
