Canelo Alvarez has reportedly agreed to a fight against Christian Mbilli.
According to Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine, Mbilli’s WBC super middleweight title would be on the line.
Alvarez Eyes September Return
Alvarez is reportedly eyeing Sept. 12 for his return to the ring, according to Boxing News 24/7, citing Alvarez’s trainer, Eddy Reynoso, as its source.
Boxing News 24/7 also reported the fight is not finalised.
However, Coppinger of The Ring reported it’s a “done deal.”
Mbilli’s Record
Mbilli, the 31-year-old from France, is 29-0-1 with 24 knockouts.
He won the WBC interim world super middleweight championship last year.
Alvarez Looking to Regain Title
Alvarez, the 35-year-old from Mexico, is 63-3-2 with 39 knockouts.
He’ll have a chance to win back one world title after losing his undipsuted championship to Terence Crawford, who has since retired.
A rematch against Terence Crawford does not appear to be the priority for Canelo Alvarez.
Alvarez traditionally fights on Cinco de Mayo weekend.
But he passed up the date this year while opting to wait a year to fight again after his crushing loss to Crawford.
