Cameron Young is in contention at The Players Championship 2026 and stands to significantly increase his career earnings. He began the final day three strokes behind Ludvig Aberg but is now chasing down Matt Fitzpatrick on the leaderboard.
The Players Championship offers a large prize purse, and Young is poised to capitalise on it. Young was named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2021-22 and currently sits in 15th place on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
Early Struggles and Breakthrough Year
Young’s early career saw him miss the cut at the US Open in 2018-19 after going nine-over-par through two rounds. He experienced a similar fate in 2020-21, failing to play the full weekend at both the Farmers Insurance Open and the US Open.
2022 proved to be a breakthrough year for the American golfer. He earned a total of $6,520,598 on the Tour circuit, largely due to five runner-up finishes. Young finished T2 at the Sanderson Farms Championship, earning $623,000, and then secured $1.07m for another T2 at The Genesis Invitational.
In April and May 2022, Young tied for third at the RBC Heritage and the PGA Championship. A T2 finish at Wells Fargo added another $1.88m from those three events. He also added $1.45m with a solo second place at The Open Championship.
Earnings Since 2022
2023 was another solid year for Young, with total earnings of $5,392,961. A solo second-place finish at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play contributed a significant $2.2m to this total.
Young’s earnings decreased in 2024, with a total of $4,057,224. A solo second at the Valspar Championship earned him $915,600, while two T9 finishes at The Masters and the Travelers Championship added over $500,000 apiece. He also won roughly $595,431 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
Young bounced back in 2025, securing his first PGA Tour win at the Wyndham Championship in August and earning $1.48m. A tie for fourth at the Tour Championship added another $2.62m to his yearly earnings.
