Cal Raleigh Scratched from Mariners Lineup, Pereda Called Up

The Seattle Mariners have scratched All-Star catcher Cal Raleigh from their lineup. The change came shortly before Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Royals at T-Mobile Park. The news arrived just ahead of Randy Johnson’s number retirement ceremony.

Mitch Garver has taken Raleigh’s place in the lineup.

Raleigh’s Late Scratch and Pereda’s Call-Up

The club did not provide a reason for Raleigh’s status change.

A few minutes after Raleigh was formally scratched, the Mariners called up veteran catcher Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A Tacoma. Pereda, 30, is the only other catcher on the Mariners’ 40-man roster, other than Raleigh and Garver.

Wilson Placed on Injured List

In a corresponding roster move, infielder Will Wilson was placed on the injured list with a fractured left thumb.
