Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever guard, has reportedly made an unexpected move during the WNBA off-season. Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, revealed that Clark blocked him from calling or texting her.
Portnoy’s Block and Reaction
According to Awful Announcing reporter Kevin Harrish, Portnoy said: “I was going to do a pizza review with her in Indianapolis. Blocked me. The phone went to green. I DM’d her, no response. She always responds.”
This marks a shift in Portnoy’s relationship with Clark. He had previously expressed admiration for the WNBA superstar, even calling her “one of my favorite athletes”, according to Harrish.
Clark’s Career So Far
Clark has established herself as a prominent figure in the WNBA early in her career. Over 53 games, she has averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 1.4 steals per contest.
- Selected to the WNBA All-Star Game in both of her two years
- Selected to the 2024 All-WNBA First Team
- Won the 2024 Rookie of the Year
The 24-year-old was the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Fever, following her collegiate career with the Iowa Hawkeyes. She played just 13 games during the 2025 season after suffering a severe groin injury and a bone bruise in her left knee.
When on the court last season, Clark averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game. After being sidelined for eight months due to injury, she returned to play with Team USA in the FIBA World Cup qualifier in March.
Potential Interactions at NCAA Tournament
With the men’s NCAA Tournament Final Four taking place in Indianapolis, Indiana, this weekend, it remains to be seen whether Portnoy and Clark will have any interactions.
Preseason for the 2026 WNBA season is weeks away for Clark and the Fever.
