Brewers Face Slumping Red Sox After Strong Series Wins

The Red Sox are in dire need of a victory after dropping two out of three to the Padres at Fenway Park over the weekend. Their next opportunity comes against a tough opponent.

The Brewers, on the other hand, are one of baseball’s hottest teams. Milwaukee has won their first three series and hold a 7-2 record after their 8-5 victory over the Royals on Sunday. The Brewers have yet to face a National League team this season.

Brewers’ Offensive Power

The Brewers secured a victory against the Royals on Sunday. Gary Sanchez hit his team-leading third home run in the first inning. Christian Yelich contributed with a pair of hits, including an RBI triple, also in the first inning.

Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy praised his team’s offensive play. Murphy said his offense is relentless and that his players understand the importance of playing through two outs.

Pitching Matchup: Woodruff vs. Bello

Brandon Woodruff is set to pitch for Milwaukee. In his last appearance, Woodruff allowed two runs on four hits and striking out six in five innings on Tuesday in a 6-2 win against the Rays.

Woodruff has made only one career start against the Red Sox, striking out nine and allowing one run in 6⅓ innings. He secured the win on July 29, 2022.

Brayan Bello will be on the mound for the Red Sox. Bello allowed six runs (five earned) in his season debut last week against the Astros.

  • Brewers (7-2): Turang 2B, Contreras C, Yelich DH, Mitchell CF, Bauers 1B, Rengifo 3B, Frelick RF, Hamilton SS, Perkins LF
  • Red Sox (2-7): Anthony LF, Yoshida DH, Contreras 1B, Abreu RF, Story SS, Mayer 2B, Durbin 3B, Narváez C, Rafaela CF

Player Notes and Statistics

The Brewers’ Sunday lineup did not include Massachusetts native Sal Frelick, who experienced tightness on his left side during Saturday’s doubleheader. Despite the tightness, Murphy stated that Frelick could have played and should be better for Monday’s game. Frelick is from Lexington and played college baseball at BC.

Wilyer Abreu has a .429 batting average and is tied with Christian Walker of the Astros to lead MLB with eight extra-base hits. Masataka Yoshida each had three hits in Sunday’s loss to the Padres.

Bello is 0-1 with a 3.95 ERA in three career appearances.

“My one and only goal this year is being healthy and being available,” said Woodruff.
