Boston Marathon 2026: Road Closures and Event Timings

The Boston Marathon is scheduled for April 20, 2026, in Massachusetts.

Over 30,000 runners and many spectators are expected to attend the 130th annual race.

The Boston Athletic Association anticipates participants from all 50 states.

Road Closures in Hopkinton

The marathon will run through eight Massachusetts communities, starting in Hopkinton, passing through Framingham and Wellesley, and finishing in Boston.

A number of road closures are necessary for the marathon to happen safely.

Main Street, Ash Street, Park Street, and Hayden Rowe in the Town of Hopkinton will be closed at 6:30 a.m.

Other roads leading into downtown Hopkinton will be closed at 7 a.m.

The following locations will be blocked off for the marathon:

  • West Main Street at Lumber Street
  • Cedar Street at Legacy Farms North
  • East Main Street at every intersection

The Town of Hopkinton also stated that all roadways adjacent to roads where runners, spectators, volunteers, and workers are located will be blocked.

Parking Restrictions in Boston

Drivers cannot park near the Boston finish line due to road closures and traffic concerns.

Parking will not be allowed on multiple streets in Boston during the marathon and the lead-up to the event.

The athletic association suggests using the 100 Clarendon garage, the parking garage at 100 Huntington Ave. in Boston, the Copley Place parking garage at 2 Copley Place, or the Boston Common Garage on Charles Street (although this one is closed the morning of the marathon).

Road Closure Timings

Streets and roadways which comprise and abut the Boston Marathon route will be closed to vehicular traffic on race day, according to the B.A.A. website.

The Boston Athletic Association provided a chart for the marathon course road closures looking generally at timing.

The chart shows the time of closure and the time of reopening for different areas.

More information about places where parking is restricted can be found on the City of Boston website.

The marathon, run on Patriots’ Day, requires road closures to ensure the event proceeds safely and efficiently.
